The European Union’s Common Agricultural Policy is implemented in Greece through the Strategic Plan for the Common Agricultural Policy 2023-2027 (CAP). It is the main tool for the development of Greek agriculture and marks a shift in its production model.

Main Objective

In addition, the Rural Development Actions aim to strengthen cooperation between producers and create robust collective schemes that will create the necessary economies of scale. At the same time, the aim is to reduce the environmental and climate footprint and produce healthy food that will meet consumer demands. Finally, a strategic objective of the CAP Framework is to attract young farmers and create new jobs in rural areas.

The allocation of 13.5 billion euros through the CAP over the next five years constitutes an unprecedented financial mechanism for achieving these ambitious goals. The strengthening of the Agricultural Knowledge system and the immediate mobilization of farmers and primary processing and marketing enterprises themselves, so that they can be informed validly and responsibly about the opportunities offered, will contribute significantly to the realization of the above objectives, constituting a necessary condition for the timely and effective utilization of the CAP Framework. Accordingly, the Administration will play a key role with its readiness to proceed with the issuance of the required implementing decisions and the announcement of interventions as soon as possible.

At the same time, the contribution of the private sector, including financial institutions, to actively support the investment initiatives of producers is also considered important.
